On Thursday 24 June 2010, ACAP national director Doug Wright accompanied by the ACT Chairman Toby Keene and ACAP policy consultant Ray Bange met with the Director of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), Dr Ken Tallis. This followed the highly successful conference on Australia’s Health 2010 at which ACAP was represented by the President and a number of paramedic practitioners, and which saw the release of the definitive twelfth biennial health report of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare – Australia’s Health 2010.

Discussions ranged over several of the current issues involving the delivery of EMS including the capture of reliable workforce statistics, funding arrangements, patient outcomes and the need for national registration of paramedics. The discussions were fruitful and Dr Tallis expressed particular interest in developing better statistical datasets that would recognise the contribution of paramedics to Australia’s health system.
