The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has published a comprehensive FAQs document entitled, Regulation of paramedics under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme, which provides an excellent overview of the progress of registration and addresses many of the important questions that are relevant to current and future paramedics aiming to be registered in 2018.
The document covers the effects of registration, mandatory registration standards, the role of the Paramedicine Board of Australia, qualifications and pathways to registration, course accreditation arrangements and the status of students under the regime. I would also invite you to register to receive the AHPRA email alerts when information is published.
PA has been an industry leader in advocating for paramedic registration over a long period of time and will now assume the role, on behalf of members, as your support mechanism in ensuring you are fully prepared for registration in late 2018. The PA Board and executive, in conjunction with the National Registration Working Group has been researching the relevant resources you will need to meet the requirements for registration over the next 12 months and will be providing you with further information on these initiatives in the coming months as we progress toward the ‘participation’ date of 1 September 2018.
