The ACT Branch of the Australian Labor Party has unanimously passed a resolution
supporting the national registration of paramedics. At their Annual Conference held
recently in Canberra,  delegates recognised that an appropriate regulatory scheme
will advance public safety, help to underpin national practice standards and assist
with the mobility of practitioners thus potentially enhancing access to and equity
in emergency medical services.

The Conference noted that Paramedics performed complex and demanding roles that
were essential in providing out of hospital emergency health care. They were a vital part
of the health care system, and it was essential that they operated under a national
regulatory system similar to other health-professionals such as registered nurses and
doctors.
