ACAP held a well-attended open forum in Adelaide on the potential ramifications of independent paramedic registration on Wednesday 15 September 2010.
Ray Bange (ACAP Policy Consultant) addressed an evening meeting of paramedics and ACAP members
in Adelaide on the various issues to be considered and the likely impacts of independent professional
registration. He illustrated his presentation by drawing on a range of scenarios and developments within
other health professions and the application of paramedic registration in jurisdictions such as
the United Kingdom.
He also outlined briefly the current developments on paramedic registration in New Zealand and the
project plan currently being undertaken by Western Australia as the lead agency to progresss the Australian Health Ministers’ in-principle decision to implement national paramedic registration by 2014.
