On Tuesday 17 April, Executive Member Mick Davis AM and National Policy Advisor Ray Bange met with the Australian Government Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Baggoley.
Discussions covered the role of paramedics in emergency and primary care, the integration of out-of-hospital care into the mainstream of healthcare policy and funding, and other elements of relevant healthcare policy and strategy outlined in the PA position commentary The Forgotten Health Profession.
The importance of paramedic registration and the presumptive restriction of the use of title as significant contributors to public safety were discussed, as well as the role of the various jurisdictions and Commonwealth Government in any regulatory framework. The discussions were useful in informing both parties.
Professor Baggoley expressed positive support for the profession and a desire to see continued liaison and information sharing in the lead up to the proposed registration consultation process.
