In May 2017, the New Zealand Ministry of Health (MoH) issued a consultation document and survey to 101 targeted stakeholders on Ambulance New Zealand’s proposal to regulate paramedics under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (HPCAA).
Paramedics Australasia – a key stakeholder – was included in the consultation. In response, PA’s New Zealand Paramedic Registration Working Group prepared a 27-question survey based on the MoH consultation questions. This anonymous survey was distributed to PA New Zealand members and was also opened up to others in the New Zealand paramedic and ambulance workforce. The survey, which was open between 6 and 22 June 2017, gained 241 responses.
The final feedback document – the Paramedics Australasia New Zealand Paramedic Registration Working Group Survey of NZ Ambulance Staff regarding Registration under the HPCAA – has now been submitted to the MoH for consideration.
