The SA Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon. John Hill gave the opening speech at the Emergency SA conference on 24 August 2012. During his speech he again confirmed his strong support for paramedic registration, to quote:
“The Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council, of which I am a member, has asked that an investigation into the inclusion of paramedics into the scheme be undertaken by July, 2014. I strongly support the registration of paramedics. Unfortunately, not all of my colleagues around the table have a similar view. I think its fair to say that the Western Australian government and South Australian governments probably the most strongly support, and some of the other states as well. So I appreciate that this is a pressing issue for many members of the profession and I give you my undertaking that I will do everything that I can while I am Minister for Health, to advance that cause.”
Emergency SA 2012 was a great success with over 150 delegates from Emergency Medicine, Nursing and Paramedicine. This collaborative initiative is one of a kind in Australia and provided a great networking activity for all professionals involved in emergency medical care.
