Target 3000 is the goal set by Paramedics Australasia for the number of responses from paramedics about registration, so get thinking and be ready to respond!

The consultation period looking at options for a national framework of regulation and registration of paramedics has begun, and we need your support.

The registration options under consideration

The options under consideration for paramedic regulation are:

1)     No change – rely on existing regulatory and non-regulatory mechanisms, and self regulation through a national voluntary code of practice

2)     Strengthen statutory health complaint mechanisms – with a mandatory code of conduct and powers to prohibit those who breach the code from continuing to provide health services

3)     Strengthen State and Territory regulation of paramedics – jurisdictional registration

4)     Registration of paramedics through the National Scheme (NRAS)

PA has advocated for an extensive consultation program. Regardless of the final process it is the intention of Paramedics Australasia to provide as much information as possible to the practitioner workforce to enable individual participation and expression of views from an informed basis.
